In the present day, a fourth former flatmate shows up to help clear the flat. Back in1973, the country is in turmoil, with industrial action and IRA bombs. The seven friends are all reunited at the Tufnell Park flat to meet Alan, who is back from America where he has been working. Old tensions end up being reignited and Alan, on learning that Jay is gay, surprises everyone, including himself, by his negative reaction to the news. Jack is working for the TUC and after his grandfather passes away, and seeing his father unexpectedly vulnerable, he comes to a decision to help his flagging political career. Charlotte, with Victor's help, finally manages to realize that it is time for her to end her relationship with Jack and move out of the flat. Orla ends up receiving a surprise visit from her brother Connor, who thinks that the IRA is after him for being a tout and is looking for a place to hide. Following an IRA bomb, Alan manages to summon the strength to admit his feelings for Lilly.
