The House the 50s Built: Season 1, Episode 1

1 - 1:

Professor Brendan Walker begins his exploration of the inventions that transformed drab post-war Britain into a Technicolor-drenched world of the future in the kitchen. The 1950s housing revolution replaced free-standing units, mangles and larders with fitted units, twin tubs, food processors and refrigerators. The programme hears from people who lived through the decade, including Maureen Lipman and Fay Weldon, as well as designers such as Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway, and also Kevin McCloud.
